Just my humble opinion...dog show UG!

Dog show people annoy the HELL out of me! They think they are the ONLY people who know what's right for the breed of dog they have chosen. Originally dog shows started for an admirable enough reason, evaluation of breeding stock. It has since become nothing more then a click where your success in the hobby is directly correlated with how much ass you are willing to kiss. And ANYONE who dare breed their dog without first showing the dog (getting their permission) is automatically deemed a "puppy mill". Now, I may not be a geneticist or mathematician...but lets see how this would work. Lets say ONLY dogs that receive the necessary points to get their champion are permitted to breed. So for arguments sake lets say there are 10,000 register beagles in the US that are showing (I know its low...but bare with me) MAYBE 10% would get their CH and the rest will be neuterd. So that's 1000 dogs breeding now that's no guarantee that these offspring will get their CH. So lets say each dog has 5 pups...that's 5000 dogs back into the show ring...it ONE generation you've lost half you available dogs. Eventually your only resort is inbreeding the dogs or you loose the breed. Now this was a low figure to begin with but the principal is the same EVENTUALLY you'd have no dogs left that weren't related.

For the record, NO I am not a dog breeder. But if I ever wanted to that's my choice not the choice of some glorified club.

As for the shows themselves, well that's a story in and of itself. My Grandfather was a handler for a woman for years! He finally stopped when he'd had enough of the politics of it. I've even seen it on TV. Bravo did a show a few years back called "Show Dog Moms and Dads." There was one episode that stood out in my mind... The couple on the show were at a competition and the one guy even said something along the lines of this judge doesn't like us. So it's not how perfect your dog is...it's if the judge likes YOU. I have even heard allegations of bribery!

So IMHO get over yourselves. Dogs are pets, they were originally domesticated as companions and workers. They do wonderful things for people regardless of weather or not they are pure bread, or exactly to breed standard.

I'm Soooooooo tired of the holier then thou crap that these people try to pull.
